Buying for an order
When a customer order needs more than you have, you can buy for it straight from the sale.
-
On the sale, select More → Buy for this order…
-
Customry One works out what’s short on each line:
- what’s still to follow on the order,
- less the free stock it will get, in due order,
- less anything already being bought for it.
-
Choose who to buy each line from, and how many.
Services you buy in (ones with a supplier, such as subcontracted installation) are listed too, with what’s ordered less what’s already being bought. Services you do yourselves aren’t.
-
Select Raise requisition (or add the lines to a purchase order).
Depending on your company’s setup, this raises a requisition to be approved, or adds lines to a draft purchase order for the supplier. Either way, you’re told which one, with a link.
The purchase order line remembers which order it’s for, so when the goods arrive you know where they’re going.
If nothing is short, the dialog says so: the stock is there, or it’s already being bought.
Make for this order
Section titled “Make for this order”Assemblies aren’t bought: they’re made. When the order has lines for assemblies, the same dialog lists them under Make for this order, with what’s to follow, the free stock each line gets, the works orders already being made for it, and what’s short.
- Tick the lines and check each quantity under Make.
- When the assembly already has a works order that hasn’t started (another order’s, or one for stock), choose under the quantity whether to make it on A new works order or Add to WO-… that one.
- Select Raise works orders.
Each line gets a works order due by the order’s promised despatch date (else the line’s or the order’s required date), as a draft or released as your Manufacturing settings say. A line added to a works order is linked to it beside the others, and the works order’s quantity goes up by the line’s (see Add to an open works order). What’s made goes into stock, and the order takes it as it takes any stock. While the works order is open, its order line can’t be removed; cancel the works order first. A kit’s components and a configured item’s parts aren’t listed here.
The dialog is open to people who can raise works orders, as well as to buyers.
